BANDIRMA, TURKEY, October 2015. nSince being awarded municipal public transport services, private operator Bandırma Transportation Services Inc. has begun upgrading its fleet of 97 manual transmission 7- meter buses to offer its passengers increased safety and comfort, while improving operational efficiencies. Purchasing the first 10 new 9-meter Isuzu Citibuses equipped with Allison fully automatic transmissions represents a significant first step in the fleet renewal process.
“Allison fully automatic transmissions help us cut operating costs by reducing maintenance and repair expenses, as well as by improving fuel economy,” said Bulent Bican, chairman of Bandırma Transportation Inc. “After only five months in operation, our data shows that fuel consumption has already been reduced since replacing our 7-meter manual-equipped buses with 9-meter models with Allison fully automatic transmissions,” he said.
The new Isuzu Citibus was specified with Allison’s 2100 model. Part of the Allison 2000 SeriesTM product family, this transmission is designed for engines up to 172kW (230hp) and features FuelSense®, a set of advanced fuel saving strategies that helps reduce fuel consumption based on actual duty cycle and vehicle load.
Utilizing Continuous Power TechnologyTM , Allison ensures seamless gear shifts and precise vehicle control for unrivaled comfort and safety. The fleet transports 26,000 passengers daily, and each bus operates over a 200-kilometer route.
According to Chairman Bican, Bandirma Transportation Services is thrilled with its fleet renewal effort so far, but just as importantly, the public has supported the changes as well and is pleased with the new passenger experience.
“Bandırma and its local residents are sending in high praise, expressing appreciation to the company and city officials,” he said. “We consider renovating all our vehicles with fully automatic transmission equipment will become a standard."
What’s more, adoption of the new buses equipped with Allison transmissions had another benefit. “The new buses really helped us to overcome the initial prejudices we encountered against private public bus operators ,” Bican said.
“In transitioning from manual models to Allison fully automatic transmissions, not only has Bandırma Transportation Inc. experienced reduced maintenance costs while offering superior comfort and safety to passengers and drivers, it will continue to recognize the fuel economy advantages FuelSense delivers,” said Taner Gider, Allison’s area manager for Turkey and the Middle East.
