Allison Advancing in Indonesian BRT Market with Chinese OEMs

Sixty-six 18-meter articulated BRT buses travel across Indonesia. Equipping them with Allison transmissions brings out the best performance of the vehicles.

BEIJING, China, 6th of January 2014 – The Indonesian capital of Jakarta, is actively promoting BRT public bus service in order to reduce congested city traffic. Over 200,000 people rely on BRT for their every day commute. In view of this, the local bus transportation authority announced the purchase of 66 Zhong Tong LCK6180GC buses, equipped with Allison automatic transmissions. These new buses have been operating on the No. 1 BRT designated route.

The order for 66 LCK6180GC buses is the largest single order of 18m articulated buses delivered to Indonesia’s TransJakarta Busway, and all 66 buses are fitted with Allison T375R transmissions. Since going into service, this automatic bus fleet has stirred positive reaction within the Indonesian market. The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, Jakarta City Government and riders have all highly praised the reliability, durability, high efficiency and safety of the vehicles.

Allison’s torque converter technology multiplies engine torque while launching the vehicle smoothly, a real advantage for public buses which are characterized by frequent starts and stops. The Allison automatic transmissions provide easy maneuverability, allowing the driver to keep both hands on the steering wheel and concentrate on road conditions, increasing safety and riding comfort.

LCK6180GC 18-meter articulated BRT buses are fitted with natural gas engines, complementing the fully automatic transmissions for superior performance. Allison’s advanced electronic control technology helps engines obtain excellent fuel economy even at low speeds. At the same time, Allison’s Continuous Power Technology™ helps improve natural gas vehicle performance – avoiding acceleration delays and power interruptions common with gas engines combined with manual transmissions.

This isn’t Allison’s first venture in supporting the export of Chinese buses to the Indonesian market. In the past, Dandong’s Huang Hai Bus has exported buses to Indonesia, all equipped with Allison transmissions, earning high praise locally. Globally uniform Allison OEM Product Assurance (OEMPA) quality standards ensure that every bus fitted with an Allison automatic transmission complies with international market standards, satisfying the needs of Indonesia’s bus industry for reliability, durability and high efficiency. Allison’s service network, professionally trained by Allison experts, can swiftly provide services and technical support for buses exported to Indonesia.

“Along with increasingly more Chinese buses used in global public transportation, customers are demanding higher vehicle efficiency and performance. Allison Transmission’s excellent record over the years working with Chinese OEMs has produced relationships based on cooperation. Together we are promoting and expanding Chinese bus exports with support through Allison’s global network,” said Steven Chew, Managing Director for Allison Transmission in China.
